Child Supervision Order

What is a Child Supervision Order?

A Child Supervision Order allows the Local Authority to assist and befriend the parents of the child and support them in providing appropriate parenting for the child. This often applies to cases where the parents need extra support and guidance in raising their child.

It is an Order granted by the Court to give a Local Authority to power to legally monitor your child’s needs and progress. A social worker will be there to assist and help you with your child and family.

Will the Local Authority have Parental Responsibility over my child?

Unlike a Care Order, a Child Supervision Order does not give the Local Authority Parental Responsibility. The role of the Local Authority, through a social worker, is to guide you as a parent and support the child’s upbringing.

How long does a Supervision Order last?

Supervision Orders last for 12 months. Extensions can be granted by the Court for an additional one year. The maximum amount of time a Supervision Order can last is up to three years. How long each Order will last depends on the individual circumstances of the case and how well the child progresses.

What should I do if I get a Supervision Order?

If you are worried that this will happen to you and your child or it is happening to you then you must contact us immediately.

Acting on your behalf, we will understand your situation and by working with the Courts and the Local Authority to ensure the best outcome for you and your child.
