At Ringrose Law, our Canine Law experts understand how important pets are to their owners/handlers.

Indeed, it has been scientifically proven that dogs are the only animal to prefer the company of human beings to their own species so it comes as no surprise that we, likewise, often form extremely close bonds with a ‘man’s best friend’.

We are now increasingly hearing reports in the news of dog attacks, abuse to animals and neglect from owners and our Canine Law department is able to provide support, legal advice and representation to dog owners across the country who are experiencing any Canine Law problems.

Canine Law Explained

There are now around 24 Acts of Parliament relating solely to dogs and a further 11 relating to animals in general it is, therefore, increasingly likely that dog owners will, at some stage, require legal advice of some kind in relation to their canine companion.

At Ringrose law we can offer preliminary advice in respect of criminal proceedings under Section 1 of the Dogs (Protection of Livestock) Act 1953, Section 2 of the Dogs Act 1871, Section 3 Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, Section 1 & 4B of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, sentencing guidelines, plus Breed Specific Legislation.

Our Canine Law department can also provide advice in the following areas;

  • Ownership/access disputes
  • Disputes between buyers and sellers of animals
  • Planning disputes for businesses or residential clients
  • Community Protection Notices
  • Dog Control Orders/Public Spaces Protection Orders
  • Stray Dogs
  • Barking Dogs: Environmental Protection Act 1990
  • Nuisance
  • Disputes between breeders and buyers
  • Disputes between rescues and owners/former owners
  • Cruelty/Duty of Care: Animal Welfare Act 2006
  • Personal Injury claims
  • Damage claims (dog on dog, dog on other animal, dog damaging property)
  • Claims against vets

Our Experience

Emma is a very experienced solicitor who not only provides advice in a professional capacity but often finds herself offering advice to the many dog owning friends and competitors she meets in her personal life
