GP practices have recently started providing online services to allow their patients to book appointments, request repeat prescriptions and access their medical records online. This simplified making appointments, an often frustrating process for patients who spend long periods trying to get through to the practice just to speak with someone only to be told that they will need to wait days for an appointment.

In today’s busy world, being able to make appointments and request repeat prescriptions online is a valuable way to save time, for patients and also for doctors. A year ago, 3% of people were able to access these services online but figures now suggest that they are available to 97% of the population, if they want it. This is an impressive increase and an indication that more and more people are expecting openness from their doctors.

A few years ago it was unheard of for patients to have open access to their medical records. With patients being able to view their records, there is likely to be more scrutiny over the quality of record keeping and this may hopefully increase standards.

As experienced clinical negligence practitioners, our legal team at Ringrose Law have acted in many claims where medical records have not accurately reflected the consultation or appointment with the patient. This can sometimes lead to important details being missed and if that happens there is a risk of a delayed or incorrect diagnosis being made. Where this happens, they can often experience a greater amount of pain and suffering as the result of not receiving treatment at the first available opportunity. It can also mean that they have to undergo additional procedures, and in the most serious cases can cause a reduced life expectancy or even have fatal consequences.

If you think you may have experienced negligent treatment or advice from your GP, contact us at Ringrose Law and we will advise you on whether you may have a claim against them for medical negligence. We can offer No Win No Fee agreements where we believe a claim has sufficient prospects of success and will discuss whether your claim is suitable for this type of arrangement.

We can be contacted at one of our offices in Boston, Lincoln, Grantham, Sleaford, Newark or Spalding. Alternatively, you can make an enquiry through our website and one of our experienced legal team will get in touch with you as soon as possible.
