A lack of risk assessment causes worker severe burns

A lack of risk assessment caused a manufacturer to be fined, when a worker suffered severe burns on his first day! http://press.hse.gov.uk/2016/firm-fined-after-worker-suffered-cement-burns-on-first-day-of-work/)

The Health and Safety Executive investigation into the incident found that the company (a building products manufacturer) had not appreciated that slurry from cured concrete dust posed the same risks as that from cement or wet uncured concrete.

They had no risk assessment for the slurry or suitable and sufficient controls to eliminate, reduce or control the risks. A mechanical system to remove slurry from the water pit would have prevented the life changing injuries that the worker suffered. This highlights the need for proper and thorough risk assessment.

If you have suffered an injury at work as a result of poor risk assessment then contact us at Ringrose Law where we will advise you if you have a claim. We have offices around Lincolnshire and Newark and may be able to take your claim on a No Win No Fee basis.
