The Burton Road and Arboretum GP surgeries in Lincoln, Metheringham Surgery, and Pottergate Surgery in Gainsborough will all close on 07 January 2017.
Universal Health Ltd which runs the four surgeries announced that it could no longer manage them due to financial difficulties. Universal Health Ltd asked the NHS to end its contract back in August.
New providers could not be found in time to take over the management of these practices.
The mass closure is expected to leave approximately 11,000 patients without a GP Practice, although Lincolnshire West CCG has advised that patients who do need to move, will all have an alternative option within 0.2 miles of their current surgery.
Sarah-Jane Mills, director for service development and delivery at Lincolnshire West CCG, commented that “In these regrettable circumstances, we have no alternative but to close the practices.”
NHS Lincolnshire West CCG says patients have until January 7 to register with a different GP practice. If they cannot do this by that date, the CCG will automatically allocate those patients a surgery on their behalf.
The closure will take place after the festive period, but within the depths of the “winter crisis”, when demand for seeing a GP usually rises. The seasonal rises in GP attendance during the winter period has been well documented.
Some people are concerned that alternative GP Surgeries will now be inundated with thousands of registration requests, increasing the pressure and strain on already limited resources, which will result in even longer delays before they are able to see their G.P. with a medical concern.
