One can find out from the police if their partner has a history of domestic violence, under a new trial scheme entitled Clare’s Law. If the police consider that someone may be at risk of domestic violence from their existing or new partner, they have the discretion to disclose that information.

The pilot scheme is an attempt to tackle domestic violence. It is being carried out in Greater Manchester, Nottinghamshire, Wiltshire and Gwent and will end in September next year.

The scheme is named after a victim of domestic violence named Clare Wood, who was tragically killed by her former boyfriend in 2009.
