If you marry or enter into a civil partnership any existing will is automatically revoked! So if you are a widow and remarry, then potentially any previous people who benefited under your will (such as your children) will not inherit on your death unless you make a new will!

Divorce however – possibly surprisingly – does not revoke a will, only the appointment of your ex-civil partner or ex-spouse as an executor and any gifts to them are void.

If you do not have a will then your estate will not necessarily pass to who you think, your estate will pass under the intestacy rules. For example, if you are not married your partner will have no rights under the intestacy rules.
