At Ringrose Law, we offer candidates a unique opportunity to experience life at a busy, city-centre law firm with a regional presence.

With nine office locations across the East Midlands, we provide a dynamic and varied placement where applicants can gain first-hand insight into multiple areas of legal practice.

What is the summer vacation scheme?

There are up to 3 places on our Summer Vacation Scheme available every year, which usually takes place around the end of June at our Lincoln office.

Placements last for 2 weeks and is designed to provide you with valuable and practical experience within a law firm.

During the placement you will have the opportunity to gain experience across different departments, shadow and observe colleagues, and speak to our trainee solicitors, partners, lawyers etc and establish connections.

You will gain a unique insight into the day-to-day life of a solicitor and hopefully be able to confirm if a career in law is for you.

What to expect

Our two-week Summer Vacation Scheme is designed to give university students a well-rounded and immersive experience of life in a regional law firm.

In your first week, you’ll rotate through several of our key departments to gain a broad understanding of different legal areas. These typically include:

Personal Injury & Clinical Negligence
Wills & Probate
Children Law
Discrimination Law

You’ll have the opportunity to observe live casework, sit in on internal meetings, shadow qualified professionals, and ask questions throughout, all while getting a feel for how different teams operate in a busy, real-world legal environment.

In your second week, you’ll be placed within a department that aligns with your interests and career goals, based on discussions held during your interview. This allows you to dive deeper into an area of law that excites you and gives you a more focused, hands-on insight into the day-to-day workings of that team.

It’s an excellent opportunity to explore potential career paths, build valuable connections, and experience the culture of a thriving city-centre law firm with regional reach.

What experience do I need to apply?

We are looking for well-rounded individuals, those who can demonstrate commitment, ambition and enthusiasm for law, excellent communication and customer service skills, commercial awareness and a strong determination to succeed. Team working is important, as is the ability to work effectively alone whilst planning and prioritising your work.

Preference will be given to candidates in their second or third year of a law degree, their final year of a non-law degree, those who have already graduated and who are pursuing their next steps towards a career in law and who have an interest in completing their training at Ringrose Law.

Candidates shortlisted

We carefully review all applications and shortlist those who best demonstrate drive, professionalism, and a genuine passion for the legal sector.

Interviews conducted

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a face to face interview, where you’ll be able to discuss your aspirations, ask questions, and tell us more about what you hope to gain from the scheme.

Candidates selected

From there, we select a small number of standout applicants to join us for the two-week placement, individuals who we believe will thrive in our fast-paced, regional firm and make the most of the unique insight this experience offers.

The unique 2-week experience shows Ringrose is more committed than other firms

First and foremost the obvious benefit was that not only did I get 2 weeks work experience (which in itself is significantly longer than any other firm I’m aware of), I was offered the Paralegal and later Trainee role as a direct result of the Vac Scheme which certainly proves its worth. Without the Vac Scheme I wouldn’t have receive the opportunity to get my training and path to qualification.

As noted above, 2 weeks is also a significantly longer period than I’ve seen from any other firm. Usually 1 week max, with the Vac Scheme I did the week before Ringrose being only 4 days. I think this extra length of time has the benefit of allowing Vac Schemers to see how the business actually works, seeing a wide variety of the firm’s offering in departments and also the additional time allows Vac Schemers (if they’re enthusiastic) to get involved with real work. Again, this is unusual from my experience, as you’re usually just given fake scenarios or nothing too serious.”
